This month sees the launch of a refreshed version renamed CleanMyMac X which is now a universal binary so it can run natively on Intel Macs as well as Apple’s new M1 silicon models. One of my favorite utilities for keeping a Mac in tip-top condition is CleanMyMac from MacPaw Software, a developer based in Ukraine. This is especially important with Macs that often have ridiculously small SSD drives thanks to Apple’s policy of charging outrageous prices for Macs with larger drives. Some of these functions macOS can do in the background but other tasks might require the Terminal app or fishing around in the bowels of the system folder, trying to find log files and old caches that need to be thrown out to free up space.
That’s not to say that Macs don’t need the occasional bit of upkeep and TLC, even if it’s just pruning large files, hunting for old files or purging unused space from the hard drive.
